A very interesting and personal reflection upon the man and his newest work. I'm glad you discussed that wonderfully odd line in "Spirit on the Water": "I can't go to paradise no more; I killed a man back there." Dylan has always been great at catching his listeners off guard. After singing the line, he wastes no time moving on to the next line, moves from one to the other in the same breath, leaving the listener paralyzed because Dylan prevents the listener from pondering the unexpected confession. And the following line tries to sedate the previous one, "You think I'm over the hill / Think I'm past my prime." I'm guessing that thousands of people, upon their first listen, did a double-take, said "huh?" and scanned back on their stereos and MP3 players to make sure they just heard what they just heard. I did.

By the way, Jody Rosen of Slate had a great line in his review of the album: "I hate to break it to Justin Timberlake, but a wheezy old man has recorded the best make-out songs of 2006."
