Jarvis Cocker Video (plus music)
Posted by ScotterFollowing our Pitchfork Jarvis Cocker lovefest, I’ve been scouring the interwebs for Jarvis media and have to say that one of the best things I’ve come upon is the video for “Don’t Let Him Waste Your Time,” from his solo album Jarvis.
You may want to watch the video before making the jump. A spoiler lies yonder.
The best thing about this video is that it voids the entire reason that music videos were invented: to introduce you to a song and to get it stuck in your head. Although there are lots of challenging videos out there that are so artistically rendered that they become their own reason for existing, this one is actually a pretty simple idea, with easy execution (with the help of a green screen, of course).
Seriously, by the very end of the video, I realized that I hadn’t listened to the song at all. With the ancillary noises and diversions–the sound of tires squealing, horns honking, and girls shrieking–my mind and senses were completely invaded and devoid of the ability to actually listen. And the comic manuevers–the disco ball, the girl changing the tire, the passenger hanging onto the back of the seat for dear life as she looks behind at the destruction Cabbie Jarvis has just caused.
Brilliant, mate! Just brilliant!
It’s the best cab ride since David Johansson drove Bill Murray into Christmas past in Scrooged.

Thank you for posting this! I have been similarly obsessed with Jarvis since returning from Pitchfork and have spent way too many work hours watching Jarvis and Pulp videos on You Tube.

The video of Ali G and Jarvis singing “Help the Aged” is pretty damn amazing as well.
