Said the Gramophone featured a better New Years post than we could, but here goes nothing.
Recently, I’ve been on a huge Pulp/Jarvis Cocker kick, of which you’ll surely read more in the coming months. I found this Richard X tune, featuring Jarvis (and sampling one of the best and best-known dreamy, hazy ballads of the past couple of decades) and was immediately taken with it, uplifted by it, carried away by it, and listened to it on repeat for several hours.
It’s a new year, don’t you know? And it’s a meet time to look forward to beginning anew, to planning on it, and hopefully to following through with it.
But beginning anew isn’t just something that you do. Sometimes, it’s something that happens to you. It’s not controllable. It takes place, or it doesn’t, and can happen at any time, in any place, on any day, no matter who you are, no matter where you are.
Sometimes, you just have to wait for it.
Who knows? One day this year might be the first day of your life.
Here’s hoping that it happens to you. And here’s hoping that it happens to me.
And if it does, listen to this song.
“IntoU” – Richard X (featuring Jarvis Cocker)

Wow, great song. I guess I should have seen the Mazzy Star sample coming a mile away, huh?
New Jarvis album due sometime this year…
