Gil Mantera’s Party Dream at the Crofoot, Pontiac, February 3

Once, there was a man. A man named Gil. Gil grew up in Youngstown, Ohio, a city famous for its gangsters and its proximity to Pennsylvania. This Gil was no ordinary child, surely, but a child with a dream. A party dream. A dream of young people dancing and singing and generally having a good time to music he would play. To music he would pre-record and sing to whilst he and his Ultimate Donny were dancing or while ripping a sweet-ass guitar solo.

That boy became a man. And that dream (that beautiful, beautiful dream) became a reality. And the party came to Pontiac.

And we got the vid to prove it:

I also got there in time to see the Carjack and The Champions of Breakfast, whom this modest site has written about here and here.

We’re big fans.

Champions of Breakfast cover Starship below. Guess what? Their version is better.

Thanks so much to Chris Brown for the video. I, unfortunately, did not do a good job of reviewing the show, because I was part of a killer dance party in the back of the room. I, too, grew up with a dream. A dream of hanging out in the back of a club in Pontiac, enjoying a great three hours of mostly pre-recorded music, dancing with friends, sweating a bit more than usual for a Tuesday night, and performing indestructible dance maneuvers. I nearly ran out of novel ideas toward the end, until I was struck by a sudden flash of inspiration from the vibes of that sweet, partyin’ man and his band, when I reached for my iPod in my pocket, thrust it in the air with a fist pump and did a crazy hip-swaying thingy and a short shoulder shake something with a weird yet not awkward shimmying motion.

Thus, The iPod Shuffle was born.

You’re welcome, America.

And thank you, Gil Mantera.

St. Louis, the party comes to your town Thursday night. Don’t miss out.

Taking someone that doesn’t know anything about Gil Mantera’s PD to a Gil Mantera’s PD show is one of life’s great/little pleasures.

Thanks, Kopper, and we are working on it (which means we’re frantically trying to figure out wtf is going wrong). Anyone out there know anything about RSS feeds and wants to help? Please email scotter@post-rockist.com ASAP/by COB!

Kopper – thanks for the heads up. We’re looking into it, but I think it might have something to do with our way outdated WordPress…

Scotter – Does Chris Brown have any video of the “iPod Shuffle”? If not, Chris and everyone else who knows you and owns a video camera needs to start capturing your dance moves on film and sending it my way. I think a montage is in order.

You’re out of your mind, z0z, that’s exactly what we need. Let’s set him up with a green screen, a karaoke machine, and a case of High Life and just let him go. It’ll be the best thing this humble little site has ever produced.
