Kids Play the Strangest Things – “Sugar Chile” Robinson
So, I had the unbelievable pleasure of visiting the Motown Museum this past weekend (full report t/k). Not to give too much away, but at one point on the tour I was reminded of the song “Caldonia,” specifically the famous version by Louis Jordan with his signature squawk of “Cal-dohhhh-nia!”
But upon looking through the YouTubes, I found this treasure. The YouTube Uploader of this video has plenty of bio for you to read, so I’ll be short here. The child prodigying up and down the keyboard is “Sugar Chile” Robinson. He was from Detroit, and he played a mean piano. Hearing a child sing this very adult tune–such a dynamic contrast between performer and song–really brings out the strengths of both. Watch it and be entranced.
