Back in April, I posted a video for what I deemed a “new Jens Lekman song” called “Happiness Will Be My Revenge.” It was included on an album called The Sweptaway Show, featuring a choir of female Swedes called The Sweptaways. These Sweptaways put together a collection of songs–some covers, some originals–with many of Sweden’s Indie music elite. Little did I know that my old stand-by favorite Jens would lead me to a new favorite and, perhaps, open up the amazing Swedish music scene to my ears.
I immediately bought the album just for the Lekman song but was soon within the trance of all of the others, and may have listened to The Sweptaways Show more than any other album this spring.
Though it sounds like a bit of a gimmick, it’s not. These choir girls know how to arrange a fine song, and the collaborators (whom I will be discovering more about over the next few weeks) add their own distinctive stylings to the choral arrangements to make every single track on this album ridiculously enrapturing.
A video was made for every song on The Sweptaways Show (a pretty great idea!) and here are some of my faves, and your Friday Fix:

“Democracy” – The Sweptaways with Sir Eric Beyond

“The World’s Greatest” (R Kelly Cover)

“Sign Your Name” – The Sweptaways with Nina Ramsby (Terence Trent D’Arby Cover)

I think I’d like to marry these Sweptaways.
